Kyoto in three days: a plan by neighborhood
Give Kyoto’s eastern sights, Arashiyama and Fushimi separate days instead of crossing the city repeatedly. This example suits travelers who want temples and neighborhood time with fewer major transfers in each day. Choose a small number of visits and check current access advice before departure.
A planning example, not a live timetable. Confirm opening days, reservations, access and transport for your dates.

Before you use this plan
This example assumes three full days after arrival and a place to stay with useful transport connections. Day order is flexible. Attraction visits, meals and transfers need their own time buffers; this is not a timed or accessibility-verified route.
Day 1 · Higashiyama and Gion
Choose Kiyomizu-dera as a main visit and continue through the surrounding streets toward Yasaka Shrine and Gion if your pace allows. Check the city’s access guidance and respect restrictions on private streets and photography.

Day 2 · Stay in the Arashiyama area
Use a day for Arashiyama rather than combining it with distant eastern sights. Pick a temple or garden and a neighborhood walk. Keep extra temple visits optional so that queues and lunch do not make the day rushed.

Day 3 · Fushimi with a flexible finish
Make Fushimi Inari the main outing and choose how far to walk according to your group. Leave the rest of the day flexible for a shorter neighborhood visit or time near your departure station.

Adjust it to your trip
If walking or steps are a concern, reduce the hillside sections and confirm access with each venue. A wet day can become one carefully chosen indoor visit and a relaxed meal, rather than a full temple checklist.
What should I budget for?
Allow separately for accommodation, local transport, meals and optional admission tickets. This guide does not quote a total price. Check current fares, venue prices and reservation rules using the official references, then record your own estimates in your plan.
Check for your travel dates
- Check opening days, ticket availability and operator notices before assigning times.
- Review weather and transport changes, and keep an indoor or shorter option.
- Confirm walking distances, steps and access needs for everyone traveling.
